Portland: For Lovers, Hipsters, and Hikers

Ahh, PDX. The other Portland. Made famous by the comedy “Portlandia.” Reviled by the post-hip, wanna-be-hip and anti-hip alike. Known for its abundance of strip clubs and quirky donut shops. You get it.

I love this kooky town. It reminds me so much of my time in San Francisco in the 90s. Why does it seem like every cool photographer I follow on Instagram lives in Portland? So unfair. I digress. These photos are from two trips to Portland — once for my cousin’s wedding, and once for my friend’s bachelorette party.

Both times, I stayed in an Airbnb — Hawthorne and Alberta Districts. I loved them both, however, I will say that Hawthorne was my favorite because it felt more condensed.

ONEONTA GORGE
The Oneonta Gorge should be a 5 minute drive from Multnomah Falls, but with traffic it could easily be about 30-45 minutes. You could just walk. We drove because we’re lazy. Once you arrive, it’s short walk to the trailhead. The actual hike is super short, but a bit dangerous because the logjam can get slippery. Then you have to wade through a bit of water. Those are probably the highlights of the hike. The waterfall itself is fun, but the water can be chilly.
